Freeze non-essential IT upgrades

Currently Washington State is spending a small fortune on non-essential IT upgrades. Instead of running the latest and greatest what vendors might offer, maybe instead of 3 years running a PC .. keep it for 5 years. Instead of the latest Office...keep Office 2003. For 65,000 users an email server upgrade runs in the several millions.

Adopt Open Source Software Solutions

The state IT departments should widely support open source products especially during a time like this – Hire competent IT specialist that can support/maintain open source based operating systems , and office productivity solutions.
