The University of Wisconsin estimates it saves 30% of its ink costs after changing its default font. An efficient font uses less ink to print letters while often being unnoticed by the populace. This update could apply immediately for office printing and be rolled out over time as new preprinted forms are produced.
There is no reason the state should continue paying for the quality of paper materials it currently uses. Letters and business cards are typed on higher quality papers to increase the look of the finished product. This is a cost which could be reduced with minimal effect.
Yes, the gain would be minimal, but enough small gains can add up.
