Meals with meetings

I suggest temporarily eliminating meals and light refreshemnts with agency meetings. It's a non-essential expense.

Contracting reform

Simplify the state's 2002 competitive contracting law while removing the requirement that contracting be subject to collective bargaining negotiations with public sector unions. This would allow agency managers to use all the tools the legislature has provided to deliver services to the public in a way that makes best use of taxpayer money.

Federal $

Remember that furloughing employees paid with federal funds does not save state general fund dollars.

Eliminate State Employee Perks

Eliminate state-sponsored pensions and health care plans. Pay state employees a straight wage and have them find their own health insurance and pensions.

Change can be scary, but until you try it or at least consider...

-Hire less state troopers, allow local cities to adjust their police forces to accomodate locally. We don't need to become like California where cops hand out tickets left and right for breathing. Real crime should be dealt with first. Not saying no staters- just saying less- cut the force down. -Get the state out of the liquor selling business- this is a no-brainer. There is no reason private sales outlets can't ...more »

The Buck stops at the top

I understand that agencies and departments within the state can decide who to place on furlough and for how many days - meaning that not all state workers are being treated the same. This seems unfair because 2 people doing the same job for 2 different agencies within the state, are probably impacted differently in terms of furloughs and pay cuts. My solution is that instead of furloughs for some, ALL state employees ...more »

Too many managers (Wms)

Look at middle and upper management. When we took the last cuts, we got one more manager, and lost 3 office assisstants. You dont need a managing director, and another manager (WMS) under her/him with only 5 employees in a unit. Cut pay or number of WMS, and make sure it is WMS, everytime this comes around to our agency, they play the shell game and we lose more front people and the WMS are moved/renamed/saved, but ...more »

Break up the monopoly

The government has too many assets to pay for. Or shall I say, that the taxpayers pay for. Farm it all out. Like a corporation that has a monopoly. Break it up. Form new profit making companies that will distribute money into the economy instead of dumping that money into new unwanted programs. Get rid of all the cars, planes, choppers and construction equipment. Let the new companies fund all that thru profits instead ...more »

Performance-based contracting

After reforming state’s contracting laws, issue an executive order requiring agencies to review all their activities to determine those that can be provided via performance-based contracts. This effort could be combined with creation of a formal competition council to help design comprehensive, performance‐based contracts while providing performance monitoring and oversight to ensure there are protections for taxpayers ...more »

These budget idea's will solve the problem.

Start collecting tax revenues from the Indian casinos. Get state spending under control. IE; quit wasting dollars in the Ferry system. Don't build the tunnel it's a boondoggle and without a doubt will go over budget. The state workers union is out of control, reduce benefits to what is reasonable. Reduce the number of state employees. It's obscene the number of workers we have in state government. Don't spend more than ...more »
