Every vehicle should be issued a transponder and road tax collected for the mileage driven. This would entail putting up monitoring systems such as the sun pass in the state of Florida. Keep the registration fee at $35.00 and add the road tax at the end of the year. The local municipalites could put up their own monitoring system and collect the tax for their area. Law Enforcement would be able to track any certain vehicle and know exactly where it is at any given time. DOT would be able to see the actual traffic on the road system and adjust repairs accordingly.

I for one do not want the state tracking where I drive. That is my business.
Other states have a very similar idea -- they're called toll booths. It doesn't involve any (expensive?!) mandatory government-operated technological devices implanted in private vehicles keeping tabs on its citizens.
I do not wish to give up my privacy. Besides, it would be near impossible to retrofit all cars already sold with these transponders.
Poor idea on so many level in my opinion.
This would punish those who live far from their jobs in areas that the public transportation doesn't service. Hardly logical.
There's so many taxes that go to roads and construction, just make sure our Governor makes sure the money GOES TO WHERE IT'S INTENDED.
Just think of all the malicious transponder/snooper cases that would end up in court for litigation. Divorce and tax cheating cases spring to mind.
Well, you would have to raise taxes for more of these court cases. Hummm.
